NBA Year in Preview 2012

By: Joe Williams

A few weeks ago it looked as if there would be no need to make predictions for the NBA season because it was looking like there would be no season. But the players and owners reached a deal just in time to lose 16 games from the normal 82 game schedule, so here we go.

The Magic decide to get what they can for Dwight Howard and trade him to Los Angeles. But it’s not the Lakers. Howard joins Chris Paul on the Clippers. In return, Orlando gets DeAndre Jordan, Mo Williams and a draft pick.

As the trade deadline approaches, Steve Nash is rumored to be heading to virtually every contender. But after all the talk and speculation, Nash remains in Phoenix. He says he wants to retire as a Sun and the teams says they want him to stay but everyone knows it is in the best interest of both parties for the Suns to rebuild and Nash to join the Knicks when he becomes a free agent.

LeBron James leads the Heat to the best record in the NBA and the Eastern Conference Finals. John Wall and the Wizards finish with the worst record in the league and the first pick in the draft. Phoenix and Orlando both finish at .500. Orlando makes the playoffs. Phoenix does not.

Projected to have the best record in the NBA, could this be the year the Big 3 wins the NBA championship?

Kris Humphries, fueled by the talk of being the most disliked player in the league, rebounds from his failed marriage to Kim Kardashian to average 14 rebounds per game and finish third in the league behind Dwight Howard and Kevin Love. He says it should be a team award and gives the credit to his teammates for “throwing up plenty of bricks.”

With all of the star studded teams in the NBA, the playoffs should be very exciting. Even after all of the acquisitions made by the teams in Los Angeles, neither makes it past Durant and the Thunder. Even as the #1 seed in the East, the Heat have to go through a Dwight-less Magic, New York, and Chicago to meet the Thunder in the NBA Finals.  After a Finals that goes down to a 7th game, the Heat finally clinches the “Big Threes” first NBA Championship.
